National Partners

We partner with national non-profit organizations who share our commitment to improving reading levels. They include:

	American Library Association ( ALA) The ALA has 64,000 members and its mission is to promote the highest quality libraries and information services. Idearc is one of the first corporations to ask its employees to address the issue that many libraries are facing - not having enough funding to update their facilities. Most libraries where built in the 60s and early 70s. Many library systems haven't received the funding to update or build libraries. The Idearc Media Extreme Library Makeover projects with ALA grew out of this need. In 2007, 250 employees volunteered, providing 1,000 man-hours valued at $18,770 to refurbish three libraries: 1) Riverside Branch Library in Fort Worth, 2) Wilmington Memorial Library in Wilmington, Massachusetts and 3) Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, D.C. In addition to employee volunteers, our grant to ALA provided funds for new furniture, shelving and paint to each library. We are again improving libraries in 2008 -- starting with the Bronx Soundview Branch Library. The Idearc employees transformed the libraries by painting walls, creating murals and artwork, assembling furniture and cleaning.

	First Book Since its start in 1992, First Book has distributed more than 45 million books to children in community-based programs such as Head Start and to library programs, housing projects and after-school initiatives. First Book and Idearc Media are working together to bring new books to children from low-income families in communities across the United States. 	Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Foundation Storyline Online, a Web based SAG Foundation reading program, ensures that every child who has access to an Internet connection can be exposed to a story and related activities. The Screen Actors Guild Foundation and Idearc Media are proud to bring you Storyline Online, an online streaming video program featuring SAG members reading quality children's books aloud.
